Door at Baltimore Hebrew University firebombed
And of course the police are loathe to call it a hate crime.
This is going to happen more and more mark my words. The cockroaches are coming out into the light. Memorials defaced, headstones spray painted with swastikas, etc.
I remember being told repeatedly after 9/11 that “Islam is a religion of peace”.
I wonder if anyone is going to stand up and speak out against these atrocious acts…
*To the one who trackbacked this post. I don’t do trackbacks. I deleted it.
Let me make myself clear. Anyone who would deface a headstone or a holocaust memorial is a cockroach in my book. The President and others were quick to come to the defense of Muslims. I would expect the same for the Jews.
No one should be doing shit like this.
Many liberals, who recognize anti-Semitism when Mel Gibson is spewing it, however, are less willing to tackle the new anti-Semitism that blames Jews for involving the United States in the current war in Iraq. These modern conspiracy theorists are simply reworking ancient stereotypes to fit a new mold. In this bigoted view, Jews are only interested in themselves, have no loyalty to the nation of their birth or citizenship, and are willing to sacrifice others’ lives to advance an agenda that benefits their co-religionists. You can hear these sentiments, barely veiled, when Pat Buchanan or Air America start spinning stories about the neoconservatives and their supposedly wild ambitions.
Here’s a link to his newest rant if you can stomach reading it.
I was going to write a long post about this but I haven’t got the stomach for it after having read his horseshit.
Pat Buchanan STFU.
That works.
Drudge has the text of his apology here
This is better. He acknowledges that he’s a public person and what he says does carry weight. He also appeals to the Jewish community to help him work towards healing the pain that his words caused. He also acknowledges that some in the Jewish communtiy will have difficulty forgiving him and as he says that is their right.
He seems, at least from reading this statement, to understand that it is the people he offended that he must seek forgiveness from.
If some in the Jewish community choose not to forgive.. that is their right. I do not believe that anyone should judge those who choose not to forgive him. We in the non-jewish world truly can’t know the depth of the pain that his words caused. Some will say they were only words but words can cut like a sword and inflict pain.
I’m hoping this was from his heart. I’m hoping this will at least start to help heal the pain of all those involved.
After watching a forum discussion last night where people were willing to cut ol’ Mel some slack because of his making POC I was dumbfounded at the stupidity of some people. Simply because the man made a stinking movie they’re willing to write off his anti-semitic comments.
Which ends up sounding a little like this… this decent man, Gibson, fought the elite in Hollywood (Jews) and the media elite (Jews) to get Passion of the Christ made. A movie we adore, whimper, whine, and faint over. Of course the fact that he evidently has anti-semitic feelings doesn’t matter. As long as he got Passion of the Christ made. Give me a break!
What Should Mel Do?
1. Publicly denounce his Father’s beliefs.. Newsflash for Mel: You can love your Father but that doesn’t make him any less an asshole for what he believes or does. Trust me on this. I have an asshole for a Father.
2. Pickup a copy of Elie Wiesel’s “Night” and actually read it. I’m sure it might tax his actor’s brain but one must do what one must do.
3. Since he seems to believe that the Jews cause all the wars in the world perhaps a huge hunk of change donated to Magen David Adom might be in order?
I am still jaw droppingly stunned that people will cut him slack over his horrible comments. When the movie came out he made a point of saying it was his hands that were on film when the nails were driven in.
I guess he nailed that “fucking jew” to the cross.
He has a hell of a lot of ’splaining to do to the Jews he offended and to one Jew in particular.
I must confess that I get very angry over comments such as those he made. I also get angry at those who would gloss over what he said simply because he made a movie they agree with.
If people who make comments such as these are not confronted and taken to task for the comments they make we are in deep trouble.
I fear that one day something horrible will happen in this country, and the world, that will make Hitler look like an amateur.
Don’t tell me it couldn’t happen here… all you have to do is read the news.
