How much money does it take to screw in a compact fluorescent lightbulb? About $4.28 for the bulb and labor — unless you break the bulb. Then you, like Brandy Bridges of Ellsworth, Maine, could be looking at a cost of about $2,004.28, which doesn’t include the costs of frayed nerves and risks to health.

This article will cause you to think twice before you switch over to CFL’s to save money on your electric bill. The article also discusses the hypocrisy of some who are pushing CFL’s while at the same time wringing their hands over mercury contamination in other areas.

I find it amusing that Canada, who brought us Maurice Strong and the earth movement via the UN ( supported by Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin) is mandating the end of the incandescent bulb by 2010. I use CFL’s but by choice and I prefer the incandescent, I find the article about mercury amusing, sure it’s toxic just like asbestos but that is an overreaction about the cleanup. I spent nearly 30 years working with and around Mercury, even having to clean up spills , common sense shouldn’t be replaced by the Goracle’s fear tactics, I’d be more cautious about ingesting the phosphoros dust that the hot ionized mercury vapor fluoresces than the mercury, that phosphoros coating can get into a glass cut which is not good. You see if they can get you forced into using a regulated substance they can control your life and tax the hell out of you as well as prosecute anyone for breakage. We’d all be better served if the envirowhacko’s would look outside the boundaries of the United States. How About their picketing Tehran, I could go for that, I even might contribute to a one way ticket for them.
