Must Read

Today we live in a world where politicians are more concerned with winning an election than they are with the health and welfare of our soldiers. Of course they say they’re concerned with the soldiers and that’s why they take the stance they’ve taken. But I think we all know it’s politics that motivate them.

“Mom” by Bob Parks is definitely a must read.

I have a son who someday may choose to join the brotherhood of the military. I will worry, cry, and pray. But if he makes that choice I will honor his wishes and support him. My heart goes out to the military Mothers of today and I am in awe of them. I don’t know how they do what they do.

When you pray for those who serve offer a prayer for all of their Moms too.

I can’t stand the woman or her shows. She wouldn’t know healthy food it if sat on her face and wriggled!

Somehow I’m not surprised that she’s teamed up with Bill Clinton. Supposedly the two lard asses are going to help schools create healthier food for kids.

Neither one of them knows what good taste is so they’re a natural pair.

She can’t use a knife to save her life, she has filthy hands and cross contaminates, and her food looks like slop. Of course I’d expect that from someone who actually has a recipe on the food network site giving instructions on how to use the microwave to cook bacon for a snack.

She’s also going to help DUNKIN DONUTS make more “healthful” donuts.

I’ll never sit on a dunkin donuts stool again as long as I live.

How much money does it take to screw in a compact fluorescent lightbulb? About $4.28 for the bulb and labor — unless you break the bulb. Then you, like Brandy Bridges of Ellsworth, Maine, could be looking at a cost of about $2,004.28, which doesn’t include the costs of frayed nerves and risks to health.

This article will cause you to think twice before you switch over to CFL’s to save money on your electric bill. The article also discusses the hypocrisy of some who are pushing CFL’s while at the same time wringing their hands over mercury contamination in other areas.

We’ve been on the 12-8 schedule for a week now.

Good god I had no idea how brain-dead you feel after being up all night long. I’ve been needing to go to the store for the past few days but when it gets to 8am I’m ready to crash. I don’t have the energy to face walmart after being up all night and it’s kind of disorienting to wake up in the afternoon. I guess I’ll try and go tomorrow after crashing. R’s off tomorrow night and Sunday. The kid of course has taken to the schedule like a duck to water. He’s a night owl. I don’t know how he’s going to feel when he starts doing his school work in the middle of the night. lol Giving him a week to get used to the change.

Do you realize how boring TV is in the middle of the night? After a week of sorting and cleaning out my recipe collections, watching documentaries about Krakatoa and global glaciation theory, crocheting dish cloths and pot holders till I’m sick of them and finally giving in and watching Ring Two I gave up and tried something else last night.

I had bought some fabric, with dinosaurs of course, for curtains for the kid.. made those last night. Lined the curtains in our bedroom with double black fabric so light won’t be a problem during the day, and fixed a pair of curtains I’d made before for the living room. In the process of lugging around my portable sewing machine and my huge fishing tackle box (aka: sewing box) I managed to do something to my right shoulder and arm. I’m right handed. (It took forever to type this one handed!)

Looks like I’m back to watching television tonight… oh lord…..

The only bright spot in all of this is that with all of us switching our schedule we DO get to spend more time together at night before Richard goes to work.

We’re supposed to go to the zoo today.

I woke up 3 hours early this morning with aching painful joints. Tylenol is not touching it.

It’s 42 degrees and it’s only an hour before we’re supposed to leave for the zoo.

I don’t know if I can handle walking around that huge damned zoo… around 110 acres.

I don’t want to disappoint the kid but I’m tempted to put it off till it’s warmer. Even if we have to do it on one of Richard’s days off after he switches over to 12-8.

Damn it…

“Ecovores”

Haven’t heard that term? Didn’t think so unless you’ve been to a toy store lately.

Imagine … a civilization of humans and dinosaurs, living in a lush, green land.

One side—the predators—are using up its natural resources, wiping out everything and everyone that gets in their way. The other side—the ecovores—want to preserve their land. And they’re willing to fight to make that happen.

Will the predators succeed in destroying the land, causing their own extinction? Or will the ecovores stop the destruction and make the land a place where dinosaurs and humans can live together peacefully? In the world of Imaginext®, anything is possible!

*Emphasis added.

That is text taken from the Imaginext line of dinosaurs at the Fisher Price site.

The non-carnivores are “saving the planet” from the carnivores…. makes me want to gag.

Crappy week

We took the car to have freon added and were told we needed a new compressor: $1000.00
Also told that we needed motors for 3 windows: $600.00

Screw that. My brother and uncle are going to come down and install motors in the windows we’ve ordered for around $150.00. My uncle is also going to get a compressor and put it on the car and add the cost of the part to the price of the car. In the end it will save us a little over $1000. Thank God my family knows something about cars.

Then we found out that Richard is being put back on 12-8am shift. Something he told them he never wanted to do again. He’s worked that shift 4 or 5 times since he first started working when he was younger. That shift wears you down. In an effort to help and to keep us from going bonkers I’m going to do something radical (at least for us) and we’re all going to switch to Richard’s schedule. There will still be some things we’ll have to adjust around but the kid seems to be more alert at night and is always wanting to work on school stuff at night.

He’s homeschooled so getting him to school won’t be an issue. His pediatrician from way back told us that children will adapt to whatever schedule their parents have and not to worry about it if we had to adapt his schedule to fit ours. This was back when Richard was working 12-8 before.

Hell, the kid is a nite owl, who am I kidding? lol It’s like having a wisdom tooth extracted to get him to go to bed!

We used to be that way too. I think I can get back into that mode halfway easily. That way we’ll have some time together instead of barely seeing each other which is what happened in the past.

Besides… I’ll get to live up to my online screen name… well without all that nasty frying in the daylight stuff.
