Umm… make that any energy I had has fled the premises of my body.

I hate those adrenalin filled moments where you’re rushing to hide in your hidey hole as the sirens wail.

I feel like a viciously wrung out dishrag.

I need a nap dammit.

All hell broke loose awhile ago. The sirens went off and I was totally shocked. The kid goes apeshit and starts screaming while I try to hear what they’re saying on the television about the weather. Can’t hear a damned thing with a seven year old screeching like a 16 year old girl. Had my MP3 player on and set it to a radio station that was simulcasting a local tv station.

Grabbed my map, our shoes, flashlight, and my purse and dragged the kid into the master closet so he’d be happy. Tossed in his mammoth and elephant puppets. He was wanting “Dad” and wanting to go to the moon… NOW. For some reason he’s decided if the weather gets bad he has to go to the moon. lol

Poor kid has been scared shitless by the talk of global warming he’s picked up on. He watches all those damned nature documentaries and of course whatever the evil portrayed it’s blamed on global warming in some way.

He’s seven so he doesn’t understand all of that shit. When he sees the sky get dark he goes nuts.

God, I’d love to strangle people who scare kids with that crap.

Of course he changed his mind about the moon when we told him they don’t have french fries on the moon…

I forgot to mention that my damned SAME weather radio failed to warn us. Have to figure out why before the next time…

It’s stripped down to nearly nothing. No gizmos, etc. Simple large text in colors I can see so I wouldn’t recommend it for others.

Before they start banning bulbs I’d suggest a little experiment for anyone backing a ban.

Go have your eyes dilated.. don’t wear those dorky paper glasses… and walk outside into bright sunlight.

That is exactly how my eyes felt after having been assaulted by those “money saving” “environmentally friendly” light bulbs.

Screw that.. I don’t feel the need to go blind to save money or to save the damned planet.

I am just now getting to the point that my vision is improving after getting rid of those god damned bulbs. I still can’t read a damned book and have to rest my eyes every so often. It is fucking infuriating.

Seeing the news on this subject puts me in a very, very, bad mood.

Damn, it’s been awhile.

I’ve been unable to post because my eyes were so messed up it was simply too painful to do much on the computer except play my games. I was blinded every time I opened my own damned blog because of the white background. When I went out in the early morning I wore dark sunglasses because my eyes were extremely sensitive to bright light. It hasn’t been fun. At night I felt like I was living in a dark cave. I couldn’t get enough light even with all of the lamps on. It felt like I had sand in my eyes they were so dry.

It’s slowly getting better now. We changed light bulbs. We had put in CF light bulbs. At first they were great then I slowly noticed a change in my vision. When I sit here at the computer I have a lamp on the right side of the desk and on the left is the ceiling light fixture in the dining room. I’ve always had an extremely wide field of peripheral vision so I was getting blasted from both sides with the CF bulbs and from using the computer monitor. I’ve had problems with computer vision fatigue and had to take breaks but this was horrible. It was driving me slowly batty and was making me feel depressed. It was screwing with my vision to the point that I had trouble reading text period.

We changed back to the old light bulbs in the living room and dining room and damn you wouldn’t believe how much better my eyes felt. My eyes no longer feel like they’ve been pulled out and peeled and I no longer feel like I’m living in a cave at night. They’re slowly improving every day. I still have my computer set to a high contrast computer theme because I have come to grips with the fact that I’m an idiot. I felt that by using a high contrast theme that I was “giving in” to my vision problems. Like I said I was an idiot. Using the Stylish firefox plugin and by visiting userstyles.org I was able to download darker page styles to use for some of my favorite sites. I also adapted a style to use and added it for other pages that I view often.

By simply changing the light bulbs and changing the computer theme the difference is like night and day. I still need to adapt a theme for the blog and I intend to do that but I’m giving my eyes time to get back to what they used to be. I’m still going to be on a break from the blog but now I feel that I can eventually come back to it.

As for the money that you supposedly save with the CF bulbs? Screw it. My vision is a hell of a lot more valuable than the few measly bucks we would save.

“Nothing says you are ready for lunch like “Tonight We Dine in Hell”

Haven’t seen it yet but this “chick” plans on seeing what has been called a “guy” movie. I hate chick movies. All the navel gazing done in those movies makes me want to gag!

Some would say the Spartans were a warrior cult. At that moment, at that pass, that’s exactly what they needed to be to do what they did. I’m a history freak and I’ve read the history and I caught a show about it on the History Channel yesterday. They should re-run it again. Definitely worth watching to see just what they were up against.

Fred Thompson?

If he ran for Prez I’d vote for him.

When we moved back to Oklahoma from Tennessee the one thing that irked me was that I hadn’t been able to vote for Fred. I only lived there for a short time and then we moved back here. I’ve always liked Fred.

I love this quote…

“You can’t buy peace by just wishing it and avoiding the challenges that other nations present to you.

BUT, if he chose McCain as his running mate I’d have to vote for someone else.

Thompson/Steele would work for me.

Guess we’ll have to wait and see what ol’ Fred does. lol

Linux

Well I haven’t blown up the computer yet. I kinda like Linux.. well except for that problem with my games. lol

It’s cool. I used to tinker in DOS and it reminds me of that in some ways.. different language.

I’m a packrat.. I keep everything including old dead blog links. Cleaned em out. Now I’m thinking of remaking a wordpress theme so that I can see it easier. Had one before but I lost it in the never-ending shuffle of files on my computer. Oh well…

Frightening

Richard has offered to set up my ‘puter so it can be booted into Win or Linux.
Linux does have some interesting programs that I’d like to play with but I still need XP to play my games.

It will be interesting to see if this old cat can learn new tricks.

I’m also getting the new Sims expansion pack and I’ve ordered a game the kid has shown interest in. Of course his interest in Zoo Tycoon is simply for the mammoths that you can have in your ice age zoo. So I ordered the complete collection and guess who will have to play the game to the point that he can see the mammoths? You guessed it! Dear old Mom. It’s cool… looks similar to the sims so surely I can do it. I’m an animal freak from way back so it could be fun. :D

So if you don’t see me for awhile it’s probably for one of three reasons:

1. I’ve managed to blow up the computer tinkering with Linux
2. I’ve managed to blow up the computer tinkering with the Sims.
or
3. The mammoths have escaped the zoo and the computer and they’ve eaten my computer. :D

Oh, did I mention that I FINALLY got to see Snakes on a Plane? LOL! Funny! We’ll probably watch Lost City this weekend. I’ve decided to sit back and watch the political circus for awhile before jumping back in. The whole damned election season lasts WAYYYY too long in my book. Sheesh.

Later :D
