Maybe my computer needs meds
Last night I told Richard I’d been having problems with my computer after having updated Firefox and AVG anti-virus and trying Avast anti-virus. He suggested uninstalling them both. Ended up with a giant furball. We have no idea how, unless when I uninstalled firefox it tinkered with Thunderbird, all of my mail was gone when I checked mail. Richard spent HOURS last night getting it all to work right. I backed up a version of Firefox just to be safe and we downloaded and installed Panda anti-virus. We like it so much we’re thinking of purchasing it after the free trial. The computer hasn’t had a brain fart since so hopefully all is back to normal.

Antivirus programs often treat each other as viruses and all hell breaks loose if there are two of them working on the same system. I have had the same thing happen that you experienced.
I took Outlook Express off after getting a system shutdown from a bug that got through.
Thunderbird will hang up for whatever reason, usually if you don’t empty or compact the folders, and it won’t let you download your mail. I’m a slob and never throw away messages and it gets me into trouble, I have started deleting the junk in the folders.
But if Thunderbird doesn’t respond or acts weird go to the thunderbird folder and find the .msf files, I create a new folder and move the .msf files into it then when you open the folder in Thunderbird it creats a new .msf file recounting the files in the folder, that way Thunderbird is happy because it’s internal file counter is synchronized with the actual number of files in the folders. You shouldn’t have to do that if you keep the archives small. It can be maddening, hope all your troubles are gone.
