Genealogy
If you’re interested in genealogy you should take a look at Find A Grave. When I went to the site I found listings of where some of my relatives were buried. Which gave us, in most cases, a birth date and death date. I’ve added names to the site because it is a good source for information. And because at Find A Grave you can leave virtual flowers and a note which is nice when you live across the country and can’t visit a cemetery.
To be honest I wasn’t too thrilled with Ancestry.com before I signed up. It seemed as if nearly every link I found went to their site. I finally gave in grudgingly and signed up. I’ve enjoyed it immensely. To me customer service is a big bugaboo. I hate bad customer service. I was so surprised at how nice and helpful they were at Ancestry when I had a question and called. I talked to an actual live human being who treated me with respect. The customer service representative told me they tried to treat everyone like family. Yes it is a pay service but I’ve been very happy with the service thus far.
If you’re looking for info on anyone who lived in Scotland you want to use this site. You do pay for what you view by buying points and using a certain amount of those points to view listings and images. It’s run by the government and is a well put together site that you can find information quickly on. They also give you multiple options on what to do with information you’ve found: print, save, etc. We’ve used it an have been happy with what we’ve experienced at the site.
I couldn’t live without PrimoPDF. It acts as another printer on your computer but instead of printing to a sheet of paper it prints to a pdf file that you save. We’ve been hitting American Revolution sites because of Richard’s ancestors and if I can’t read all of the information at one sitting I’ll save it to a pdf file for later. I’ve also saved cemetery listings in the same way. It’s a great program and it’s free!
