Finally

Trying to get some information on one of Richard’s relatives so we made a long distance call, after trying e-mail, and they’re sending us some family sheets in the mail. This has been our brick wall in his family. Hopefully this will help clear some things up.

Then I can try to get through some of my family tree roadblocks. My family is a piece of work. lol

The kid is keeping watch over his “babies”… he’s doing an experiment with one of those butterfly treehouse enclosures. He received his caterpillars (however the hell you spell it… long day) in the mail yesterday and he’s been all over them watching them. They’ve been named. lol

I don’t have the heart to tell him that after they transform into butterflies they only live 2 to 4 weeks.

I told him when he releases them they might come back…. I’m going to hell for lying.

They should prepare my room now… lol

It’s been awhile

I’ve been spending my free time working on finding out how Richard’s ancestors came to be in Ohio. In the process of all of thei genealogy work we bought a cool new scanner/fax/copier/printer. I love it even though it scares the crap outta me when it talks to me.

It’s hard to do a family tree on a family when most of the male children are named after their father, grandfather, or uncle. 6 or 7 names repeated over and over. And I DO mean over and over. Think Thomas, Samuel, David, Daniel, etc to the 3rd, 4th, or 5th power as Richard would call it. It makes my eyes bleed.

Makes looking for my AWOL relatives simple. Damn.

I promised him I’d find them, like I have his other relatives, and straighten out this twisted, broken, tree. I’ll do my best but damn… just damn.

We’ve been searching for more information on Richard’s family. It’s been like pulling teeth. Some of it is due to lazy recording of information, misspellings, and incomplete records. In one instance we couldn’t find anything about one of his relatives. In another we’ve searched cemetery listings and photos in the areas where his relatives died. I suggested a few options to explain the lack of records to Richard.

1. His family were aliens. There were beamed down and BINGO they were here.
2. Because they were aliens they don’t show up in cemetery records because they simply beamed out.
3. They were vampires. They never died. They just changed their names.
4. That somewhere in Michigan and Ohio there is a huge closet with their bodies stacked in it.

Ordered some yarn for my Aunt’s afghan. OMG the red that I received is a hideous Bozo nose color. Hubby looked at it and said that’s not right. Damn straight skippy. He told me to find another color and order it to replace what came.

I’ve got 3lbs of bozo red. Guess I can use it for a throw.

In the package I also received my bamboo knitting needles and the aluminum ones I ordered. When I pulled the aluminum ones out of the package I tossed them into Hubby’s lap. He jumped. They were a tad chilly… it was around 27 degrees. lol

Next projects

After the next two afghans, and after I finish two last minute Christmas gifts for Joshua and Richard (scarves) I will be embarking on the creation of two Doctor Who scarves. That is if I can refresh my memory on knitting. If not my Cousin and his son (they live in England) may get a crocheted version.

If you too would like to recreate the famous scarf here’s a site where you can get all the information you need:

Xmas Tree Skirt

I’m thinking of taking on another project for Christmas.

A dresden plate xmas tree skirt. Hand quilted and embroidered (if the eyes will allow).

I have made one quilt. It wasn’t a human sized quilt. For a co-worker of my Mother’s who was dying with cancer. My Grandmother made a porcelain doll. I asked if I could contribute something. I made a quilt to wrap it in. Pink and orchid simple 9 patch, hand stitched and quilted with butterflies hand embroidered on various squares. For a first time quilted project it came out very nice. I was told later when she received it that she cried as she held her new “baby”. She died not long after that.

Of course a xmas tree skirt is a larger project but we need one… of course we also need a xmas tree.

Our old one gave up the ghost last christmas and we got rid of it.

Oh well.. if I make the tree skirt maybe it will cause me to get my butt in gear and start thinking about buying a tree…

Hair Cut

Going to get my haircut in a bit…. I’m tired of the shit hanging down in my face. It used to be past my shoulders but I got pissed one night and hacked it off. Then I hacked it off again. I haven’t had a “real honest to goodness paid for” hair cut since the day before Joshua was born. My hair is graying and has been since I was 16. At 42 I’ve decided I don’t have time to deal with dying it. I’m hoping they can cut it so that the gray is emphasized instead of looking like shit. :D

I’m also going to buy myself a little makeup. Haven’t had any since before Joshua was born. My choice. I’m going to the Doc tomorrow and will be doing battle with him over the fact that I’m NOT depressed or anxious enough to need drugs. I’m thinking that “war paint” will help me prove to the dumbass that I’m not sitting on a couch all the while shoveling ice cream in my mouth and crying while I watch television. Doctors can be such fucking bozos about drugs.

Well off to get the head shaved.

I come by it honestly. I was dragged to them by my Mother and Grandmother and at some point the love for them rubbed off on me. Given opportunity I could be a tightwad. I went to one this morning looking for some nice shirts for PithedOff. I came back having spent nearly $60 but I’m very happy with what I got. I found five shirts for PO including an italian merino wool sweater with collar (he has to wear a collar at work), an Eddie Bauer denim shirt that looks almost brand new, an Izod sweater, and two more really nice things for him to wear to work. None of them were over $8. I also found three shirts for myself. I like men’s shirts because they’re comfortable and huge. One denim shirt is really nice and is so big I can wear it over leggings. I also found a stuffed rhino to add to the kids animal zoo and a Donkey from Shrek. He loves donkey. lol I also bought him a ton of kid’s books for .50 cents each.

I nearly cursed a blue streak at one point. I saw a Bullyland T-Rex lying in a bin. I picked it up and it peed on me. It seems someone washed it without knowing that it had a hole in it and the water soaked into the stuffing. I was so angry. Not because I was soaked but because those things run $20 - $25 online. It was $1.50! Oh man! If there had been a way to make sure it would dry out and not mold I would have bought it. Crap. I bought some $1.00 xmas grab bags and managed to salvage nearly all of what was in them to use next year. I like to recycle things in them and remake them into something new. A few things in them will go into a special box. When I have a house I intend to have more than one xmas tree. I want to collect children’s ornaments from thrift shops and ebay, children’s hand made ornaments, and decorate one tree with nothing but childrens ornaments. I can’t throw something away that a child put so much effort and love into. I’d rather save them and give them a special place. I feel the same way about those collections of ornaments and handmade decorations you see on Ebay. It always makes my heart cringe because you know they were loved by someone who might have died and now they’re being sold to the highest bidder. I’m an idiot but things like that get to me… we’ll probably end up with a xmas tree in every freaking room of the house.

PithedOff…. we’re going to need a big garage. lol

I’ve found a really cool site that I’m going to add to my blogroll along with some other blogs related to thrift shopping. I’ll probably add some for crafting (cross stitch, knitting, and crocheting) as well.
