*Yawn*

Staying up to keep an eye on the weather. It’s been nasty tonight. We had a ton of hail. Some up to quarter sized. The storm passed through our area and we decided to watch the newest installment of John Adams using HBO’s on demand. We’d started it and the kid had gone to sleep. We were watching it and ended up looking at each other as we heard this unearthly sound outside. Sounded like wailing women… it was the tornado sirens for another part of town. Switched back and found out the storm had strengthened north-east of us and they’d sounded the sirens. Eerie sound when it’s all you hear in the middle of the night. Gah!

They’re both asleep and I volunteered to stay up a little longer. Even though we have the weather radio the kid is afraid something will happen in the middle of the night. So if this makes him feel a little more secure so be it. I can handle it.

I feel better than I did last week. Exercise came to a standstill last week. Hopefully I can start back tomorrow.

Long Week

Monday I finally went and got my hair cut. My Aunt, who at one time was a stylist, suggested a geometric cut. Shorter in back, longer in front, sweeping down to frame my face at chin level. The woman who cut it said my Aunt was right and proceeded to do just what she said. I love it. First time I’ve really loved a hair cut. I was traumatized early in life… my Mother let someone cut my hair in a “Tenille” cut. As in the Captain and…

Think mushroom cap. *shudder* It was awful. This is really nice and takes advantage of my grey hair. As the lady said it really makes my two white streaks in front stand out. She told me she’d beat me if I dared to dye it again! lol She said I had naturally what women paid tons of money for… highlights. lol She was really sweet. I bought some samples of shampoo and conditioner I wish I’d left alone. They made my hair feel great but they had lavender and mint in them. I walked around for 3 days feeling like my head was fuzzy (internally) and my head itched. It finally dawned on my lame ass that I must be allergic to something in the shampoo. I washed it and my head feels back to normal.. well normal for me.

Haven’t been exercising as much. The allergic reaction also caused some respiratory problems that made it difficult. I’ve also picked up some kind of stomach bug. Ugh.

Took Richard to a headhunter’s office yesterday. Try and explain what a headhunter is to a kid. He looked at me like I was nuts. lol The HH told him to keep doing what he’s doing and he’d see what he could find. They have an office in Tulsa too. We’ve been talking about moving to Tulsa if he could find a job there. That would be nice since I lived there for god knows how many years.

Ohh! We filed our taxes and our refund came back. Richard said to buy the dinette set I’ve been wanting to buy forever. Well I’m strange and a tightwad. I’ve decided to buy a table and down the line find chairs I want to go with it. I don’t like things that match so I may end up with 4 different kinds of chairs. Richard knows I’m weird about things like that and he likes it. We’re also going to “get with the times” and buy a cellphone. Yes, we didn’t have a cellphone. It took us until a few years ago to buy freakin mp3 players. We’re very cautious. Or as Richard would probably say we were just waiting until they got the bugs worked out. lol

Ugh. I’m going to take it easy today. I feel like 100 miles of bad road.

Easter

My Aunt is coming down this Sunday. Richard is making his new and improved “gumbo lite”.. he tinkered with the recipe and removed the need for the cup of oil needed for the roux. The only high fat content will be the small quantity of sausage he’s using. I think he’s enjoying the fact that he’s lost weight too. His pants are so loose he has trouble keeping them up. lol It’s amazing what cutting out fat and reducing serving portions will do. We have our moments. Last week we decided to treat the kid to some drive thru french fries which he loves. We each got a cheeseburger and barely made it through that.

I was thrilled yesterday because I thought I was nearly done with my Aunt’s afghan. I only had to do the edging on one more strip. Somewhere along the way I’ve lost the ability to count. I need to make one more complete strip. Oh bother. Damn!

We’ve had time to adjust to what happened. Even knowing it could happen it was still a shock. I was a mess the day before. So much so that I walked 5 miles that day. Nothin the day we got the news but I didn’t eat myself into a stupor either. It helped that there isn’t really anything fattening in the apartment to eat. lol

I lost 1 1/2 lbs which is good.

I may give myself permission to have a little something this weekend. I was good.. damned good considering how blasted I was mentally.

He didn’t get it

I feel like throwing up.

At this point we don’t know what will happen. There are a lot of angry people. Those who were offered jobs were offered jobs in India and other countries from what he heard.

Update

My Aunt had surgery. The last thing I heard was that they believe they removed all of the cancer. But knowing how this thing plays out they still will have to do a jillion tests to make sure.

Tomorrow we find out if Richard made the cut for the job. If he does we’ll get an overnighted letter. If he doesn’t we won’t get anything but even more stressed after waiting all day for nothing.

After being stressed out over this crap for a year don’t you love how they manage to make it even more stressful?

One more thing… I added links to my other blogs on the sidebar. Glucose Anonymous is my diet/exercise blog. (Since about the 17th of Feb I’ve walked about 41 miles. Go me! lol) Culinary Memorabilia is my cooking/recipe site.

Clean the coils under the fridge or find another theme for this blog?

Probably do both. First the coils.

Later…

Coils done. Changed themes and now taking break. Kid wants to use the computer.

Weird title I know. I can’t be bothered to come up with a better one today. Shirley, the Aunt diagnosed with cancer, is in surgery again today. I guess they’re removing her thyroid. Karen, my other Aunt, went down to be with her Brother while he waits for Shirley to get out of surgery. K said he was in shock after being told yesterday. K seemed to be worried that they’re doing the surgery today after doing the biopsy yesterday… said it was awfully quick as in it’s really bad. Karen told me that Cecil and Shirley have a boston terrier named Betsy. She thought that was funny because when I was really young I had two rabbits (I think.. it’s been awhile) who were called Cecil and Shirley. The family call me Betsy… to everyone else I’m Liz or Elizabeth.

Richard’s interviews went okay yesterday. He said both interviewers made comments about his having lived in Slidell. They had both lived in Louisiana at one time or another. Poor Richard, he barely gets in the door after returning from the interviews and I blurt out that my Aunt has cancer. I got the call while he was gone. Jesus.. the timing of all of this. One Aunt dies, one is diagnosed with cancer, and all the crap with Richard’s job which has been going on for over a year and comes to a head right now.

I told him yesterday if everything doesn’t settle down soon I’m going to end up in the laughing academy wearing one of those highly fashionable strait jackets.
