It was early here… long story short the kid instead of going in our room to sleep went in his own instead. His room is like an icebox all the time in the winter. I think the concept of weatherstripping is alien to the people who run this apartment. We do what we can but it’s still too cold for him to sleep in there. So we make do. He went willingly at midnight and we didn’t notice where he went. I went in about an hour and a half later and the poor thing was lying on his bed covered up shaking it was so cold. I told him to get his butt in our room and he nearly cried because he was afraid that Santa wouldn’t come because he was awake.

Well I know Santa and I made a call to his cell phone. I aked him if he could cut Joshua some slack because of something that wasn’t entirely his fault. He said he’d take another spin around Texas and give us some time. The look on the kids face was priceless. I wish I’d had a camera! He was grinning from ear to ear and waving at the phone… slowly moving towards it with the idea of grabbing it and talking to Santa. Ooops that wouldn’t work. So I cut off the “call” by saying that Santa had to go because Rudolph was hacking because he’d just swallowed a bug. He jumped up and down wanting to know what Santa said. I told him he said he’d give him time to go to sleep, that he knew he was a good boy, and that he loved him. He made a dive for the covers and was on his way to sleep. lol It didn’t last long.

Evidently he heard us wrapping presents and tried to come out. Richard went in to tell him to go back to sleep and he was very upset because he thought WE were opening his packages. He was also sneezing his head off poor baby.. so I put the wrapped presents under the tree and placed the others around them and we called him out. He was in heaven. Almost makes the time it took poor Richard to put the easel together worthwhile. He loved his painting done by the asian elephant and took pictures with his camera. He said everything was great and he thanked us… we told him he should thank Santa and he whispered thank you Santa Claus.

Richard was brilliant. He told him that Santa was running late of course so he came and dropped off the presents and asked us to put things together and wrap them. Richard ended up going to bed he was so tired.. I’m still up sitting with the kid who is bright eyed and bushy tailed after having only slept an hour and a half at most. He’s watching his new videos… I love Chicken Little. lol

I put the ham in the oven with some Dr Pepper.. makes a damned good ham, btw. My rolls were a wash. I think I had some bad yeast because they didn’t rise so we’re going to have Grands biscuits instead. lol I’m making do and adapting as I go along after years of beating myself up over failed attempts cooking during the holidays. My screwups usually happen on holidays when I’m rushed. It’s not about the gifts, the food, or anything like that anyway. It’s about Richard struggling to put an easel together, my son’s face as he watched me talk to Santa on the phone, and that whispered thank you to Santa Claus…

I am so lucky to be allowed to spend my time on this earth with these two people who share my life.

Simple words fail to describe how much I love the both of them.
