I come by it honestly. I was dragged to them by my Mother and Grandmother and at some point the love for them rubbed off on me. Given opportunity I could be a tightwad. I went to one this morning looking for some nice shirts for PithedOff. I came back having spent nearly $60 but I’m very happy with what I got. I found five shirts for PO including an italian merino wool sweater with collar (he has to wear a collar at work), an Eddie Bauer denim shirt that looks almost brand new, an Izod sweater, and two more really nice things for him to wear to work. None of them were over $8. I also found three shirts for myself. I like men’s shirts because they’re comfortable and huge. One denim shirt is really nice and is so big I can wear it over leggings. I also found a stuffed rhino to add to the kids animal zoo and a Donkey from Shrek. He loves donkey. lol I also bought him a ton of kid’s books for .50 cents each.
I nearly cursed a blue streak at one point. I saw a Bullyland T-Rex lying in a bin. I picked it up and it peed on me. It seems someone washed it without knowing that it had a hole in it and the water soaked into the stuffing. I was so angry. Not because I was soaked but because those things run $20 - $25 online. It was $1.50! Oh man! If there had been a way to make sure it would dry out and not mold I would have bought it. Crap. I bought some $1.00 xmas grab bags and managed to salvage nearly all of what was in them to use next year. I like to recycle things in them and remake them into something new. A few things in them will go into a special box. When I have a house I intend to have more than one xmas tree. I want to collect children’s ornaments from thrift shops and ebay, children’s hand made ornaments, and decorate one tree with nothing but childrens ornaments. I can’t throw something away that a child put so much effort and love into. I’d rather save them and give them a special place. I feel the same way about those collections of ornaments and handmade decorations you see on Ebay. It always makes my heart cringe because you know they were loved by someone who might have died and now they’re being sold to the highest bidder. I’m an idiot but things like that get to me… we’ll probably end up with a xmas tree in every freaking room of the house.
PithedOff…. we’re going to need a big garage. lol
I’ve found a really cool site that I’m going to add to my blogroll along with some other blogs related to thrift shopping. I’ll probably add some for crafting (cross stitch, knitting, and crocheting) as well.
